How long does a landlord in Delaware have to return a security deposit?
20 calendar days after you move out
In plain terms, the statute says
Failure to remit the deposit, or the difference between the deposit and the itemized list of damages, within twenty days of the expiration or termination of the rental agreement entitles the tenant to double the amount wrongfully withheld, and the statute requires no finding of bad faith or willfulness; a separate forfeiture of the whole deposit, and double that amount, follows a failure to escrow the deposit in-State or to disclose the account location within twenty days of a written request. A tenant who did not give the landlord a forwarding address in writing at or before termination loses the double-damages remedy, but the landlord remains liable for the unused portion of the deposit if the tenant claims it in writing within one year.
